Family & Children’s Services of St. Thomas and Elgin Appoints New Executive Director

The Board of Directors of Family and Children’s Services of St. Thomas and Elgin County is delighted to announce the appointment of Derrick Drouillard as Executive Director effective June 20, 2016.

Elgin CAS is pleased to be part of this historic moment in Ontario Child Welfare, the production of the first 5 publically reported performance indicators.  Elgin CAS has been preparing for this moment for the past 5 years and has completed a number of additional audits, evaluations and reports that further examine these performance indicators, their context, current research and interpretations of the results.  Elgin CAS is proud of the child protection work that we do for Elgin County and we are pleased that our good performance is reflected in our results on these 5 publically report

New Funding Model results in Cuts to Services in Elgin County and Staffing Layoffs at Family & Children's Services St. Thomas and Elgin

ST.THOMAS, ONTARIO (May 23, 2013) -- On April 17, the Minister of Children and Youth Services introduced a funding model that has resulted in Family & Children's Services of St. Thomas and Elgin having to cut 7.3 staff positions and a number of significant services and programs.

On Thursday September 27, at 11:00 AM Board President, Jennifer Paul-O’Donnell, Rod Potgieter, Executive Director, and Derrick Drouillard, Director of Service of Family and Children's Services (F&CS) of St. Thomas and Elgin launched the 2012 Child Abuse Prevention Month by placing magnetic purple ribbons on the marked vehicles of; Elgin O.P.P., St. Thomas Police Services and the Aylmer Police at 410 Sunset Drive, St. Thomas.

Once again, the local community extended an extraordinary level of generosity to help make the holidays a little brighter for over 50 agency families.  Almost every sponsorship referral was matched with a sponsor – this is a new and encouraging development. Compared to 2010, there was a 23% increase in the number of sponsors for families.

Friday November 12, 2010 - Local organizations in St. Thomas and Elgin have heard the request from the TVDSB Director's Community Task Force on Anti-Bullying and are committed to tackling the issue of bullying as a community.

In response to budget shortfalls, eleven Children’s Aid Societies (CASs) have taken the unprecedented step of asking the court to review the process used by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS) to review CASs budgets. The Judicial Review was filed in London, ON on Tues May 04, 2010.

On February 10, 2010, at 2:30 PM a Ceremony of thanks will be held at 410 Sunset Dr. St. Thomas. Rod Potgieter, director of Family and Children's Services of  St. Thomas and Elgin will thank Jordyn Harrison, founder of Kids for Kids for the approximately 150 backpacks and duffle bags he donated to children in care in St. Thomas and Elgin.
