SAFE and Effective Discipline and Positive Parenting, Positive parenting booklet

Parents are sometimes faced with the dilemma of:  Should I spank my kids and if I do what are the implications for my child?  Recent research has highlighted the negative effects on children when their parents use corporal punishment on them.

The Centre for Research and Education on Violence against Women and Children conducted a literature review on the latest research regarding the impact of using corporal punishment on children.  Using this information, the Centre has worked collaboratively with Thames Valley District School Board, London District Catholic School Board and FACS to create this new resource for parents, educators and service providers in Elgin County.

The booklet describes the negative effects of corporal punishment on children, as well as positive techniques that can be used as alternatives in setting limits for children.

For copies of the booklet, please contact any of the participating organizaitons.
